What's in report.txt?
It's a plain text summary of your export: how many photos and videos were saved, what was fixed, anything that couldn't be, and memories Snapchat listed but didn't include. You'll find it in the computer download, next to the year folders.
The summary
The top of the report counts what we did: photos and videos saved, videos joined from parts, captions put back, locations restored and how many memories got their local time from their location. If you asked for them, it also counts your chat photos and videos, duplicates skipped and extra copies kept.
Dates that might be less exact
Now and then a file in the export has no matching entry in Snapchat’s list of memories. We still save it, using the date from the export itself, and the report says how many that happened to. Those dates can be a little less exact.
Memories we couldn’t fully process
If something went wrong with a memory, it’s listed with a plain reason, for example:
- the photo or video file is damaged and can’t be opened
- the caption layer is damaged, so the photo was saved without it
- the date and location couldn’t be written into the file
So nothing goes missing quietly. If something’s listed there and you’re not sure why, email us at support@backupmemories.com.
Listed by Snapchat but not in your export
The last section lists memories that are in Snapchat’s list but whose files weren’t in the export. They’re almost always My Eyes Only, which Snapchat never exports. Here’s how to get My Eyes Only out.
Where to find it
It’s in the computer download (the ZIP files with year and month folders), at the top level. The phone downloads only contain photos and videos, so it isn’t in those.
