BackupMemories

Privacy policy

Last updated 3 October 2026

BackupMemories ("we", "us") helps you turn your Snapchat Memories export into ordinary photos and videos with the right dates, places and captions. This policy explains what we do with your data. The service launches mid-November 2026. Until then, this website collects no personal data.

The short version

Who is responsible for your data

BackupMemories is responsible for the personal data described in this policy. For anything about privacy, email support@backupmemories.com.

What we process, and why

Your Snapchat export

Depending on how you use the service, you either upload your export files, or you upload only the small file that lists your memories and we download each memory from Snapchat using the links in your own export. Either way, we process your photos, videos, captions and stickers, and the details Snapchat includes about each memory (date, time, media type and location), only to fix them and deliver them to you. Legal basis: providing the service you asked for (contract).

Your email address

We need it to send you your private results link and updates about your job (received, ready, links about to expire, files deleted). If you tick the box to hear about our upcoming private photo library, we also email you about that; you can unsubscribe at any time. Legal basis: contract for job emails; consent for the waitlist.

Technical information

To prevent abuse we use your IP address for rate limits. We store it only in a hashed (scrambled) form, for no more than 24 hours. Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you're a person without cookies that track you. We measure visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies and doesn't identify you. Error reports go to Sentry with filenames, locations, dates and other personal details removed. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in keeping the service safe and working.

Cloud destinations

If you choose to send your results to Google Photos, Google Drive or Dropbox, you sign in with that service and grant us permission to upload. We use that permission only to upload your fixed files, only while your delivery runs, and then discard it.

How long we keep things

DataKept for
Your original files (uploaded or downloaded from Snapchat)Deleted when your job finishes; never more than 24 hours
Your fixed photos and videos72 hours after they're ready
Your email address and job detailsDeleted along with your fixed files (we send one last "files deleted" email)
Permission tokens for Google or DropboxOnly while the upload runs
Hashed IP addressUp to 24 hours
Waitlist email (only if you opted in)Until you unsubscribe

The Delete my files now button removes your files and job details immediately. Deletion is enforced automatically on our servers and in our storage, not by hand. After deletion we keep only anonymous totals, such as how many files a job had and how long it took, which can't be linked back to you.

What we never do

Where your data is stored, and who helps us

Your files are processed and stored in the European Union. We use these providers ("subprocessors"), each bound by a data-processing agreement:

ProviderWhat forLocation
CloudflareWebsite hosting, file storage (EU), bot protection, cookie-free analyticsEU storage; global network
HetznerServers that process your filesGermany (EU)
NeonDatabase for job status and your email addressGermany (EU)
ResendSending emails about your jobUnited States
SentryError reports, scrubbed of personal dataEU
GoogleOnly if you choose to send results to Google Photos or Google DriveYour Google account
DropboxOnly if you choose to send results to DropboxYour Dropbox account

Where data leaves the EU or UK (for example, your email address for sending emails), it's protected by the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or an equivalent safeguard.

Security

Everything is encrypted in transit and at rest. Your results are reachable only through a private, unguessable link sent to your email, and downloads use short-lived links. We limit the size and type of files we accept and check uploads for malicious content.

Google user data

If you connect Google Photos or Google Drive, we can only upload files: we can't see, read or download anything already in your Google account. We use this access only to upload your fixed files at your request, we don't store any content from Google, and we discard the access as soon as the upload finishes. Google user data is never used to develop, improve or train AI or machine-learning models.

BackupMemories's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (including under the GDPR, the UK GDPR and India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act), you can ask to access, correct, delete or export your data, object to or restrict how we use it, and withdraw consent at any time. Because we delete data quickly, there's often nothing left to access. Email support@backupmemories.com and we'll reply within 30 days. You can also complain to your local data protection authority.

Age

BackupMemories is only for people aged 18 or over. We don't knowingly process data of anyone younger.

Changes

If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. If a change affects how we handle files you've already given us, we'll email you first.
