Free Snapchat Memories storage calculator

From January 2027, Snapchat archives memories that are more than a year old and aren't part of your oldest 5GB. Put in how much you have to see roughly which years that is.

  • Oldest 5GB: stays open
  • Archived: thumbnails only
  • Last 12 months: stay open

About 13 GB of your memories, roughly from 2020 to 2025, would be archived. They'd stay in Memories as thumbnails. To open, edit or share them, you'd need a paid storage plan.

A rough estimate: it assumes you saved about the same amount every year. For a count from your own files, use the export checker.

Two ways to keep them

Pay Snapchat for storage

The 100GB plan is $1.99 a month or $20 a year in the US, and £1.99, A$2.99 or €1.99 a month in the UK, Australia and Ireland; prices differ elsewhere. More than 100GB needs Snapchat+ (250GB) or Platinum (5TB). Every year, for as long as you want them open.

Download them once, free

Ask Snapchat for your export: it's free and removes nothing from the app. We put back the dates, places and captions, so your memories are ready for your phone, Google Photos or a computer.

How Snapchat decides what's archived

  • Your oldest 5GB of Memories stays open.
  • Anything saved in the last 12 months stays open.
  • Everything else is archived, starting in January 2027.
  • Snapchat says it'll tell you in the app before anything changes for you.

Archived isn't deleted: the memories stay on Snapchat as thumbnails. Opening, editing or sharing one needs a paid plan.

How to see how much storage your Snapchat Memories use

  1. Tap your profile picture at the top left.
  2. Tap ⚙ at the top right to open Settings.
  3. Under Additional Services, tap Memories.
  4. The first card, Storage, shows how much you've used.

If you have more than 5GB, Snapchat also shows how much you've used in Memories itself.
