About BackupMemories
BackupMemories is run by one person. It isn't a large company, and it isn't part of one. (The "we" on the rest of this site is me.)
Why it exists
For years, Snapchat Memories was where a lot of us kept our photos. Snapchat includes 5GB of Memories storage for free, and from January 2027 memories more than a year old that aren't in your oldest 5GB get archived. You'll still see the thumbnails, but opening them needs a paid plan. A copy you've downloaded stays yours either way.
Downloading them all is free. But what arrives isn't ready for a photo app. The dates are wrong, the places are missing, captions are separate files and long videos are cut into pieces. The tools that fix this need you to install an app or use a command line, and I wanted a way to backup your memories from a phone browser that anyone could use.
What happens to your memories
Your files are processed on servers in the EU and deleted automatically. The originals go as soon as processing ends, and the fixed files 72 hours after they're ready (or straight away, if you press "Delete my files now"). No AI runs on your photos or videos, and nothing you upload is used to train any AI model. The technical details and the privacy policy cover the rest.
How it's paid for
It's free for now, and I pay the server costs myself. I'm running it for free to find out whether it's genuinely useful to people. If it is, I'll decide on pricing later, and any price will be clear before you upload anything.
What's next
I'm building a private photo library with end-to-end encryption and locked albums. It's made on the same terms, so your photos stay yours and no AI is trained on them. If you'd like to hear when it launches, there's a box to tick when you fix your export.
