How to save your My Eyes Only Snapchat Memories
Snapchat's data export leaves My Eyes Only out, so unhide those Snaps before you ask for your export and they'll come with everything else. You need your My Eyes Only passcode for that, and Snapchat can't recover it if it's forgotten.
Step by step
- Try your passcode now Swipe up from the camera to open Memories, go to the My Eyes Only tab and enter your passcode. If it doesn't work, read the part about a forgotten passcode below before you do anything else.
- Select the Snaps Tap them one at a time. There's no "Select all", and you can pick up to 100 at once.
- Unhide them Tap the three-dot button at the bottom left and choose "Unhide Snaps". They go back into your Memories. With more than 100, repeat until My Eyes Only is empty.
- Check they're back in Memories Open the main Memories tab and scroll to their dates. They should be there with everything else.
- Ask Snapchat for your export Now they'll be included. Our guide shows how to download all your Snapchat Memories at once.
Why the export leaves them out
My Eyes Only is the part of Memories behind a separate passcode. In the exports we’ve checked, every My Eyes Only memory is listed in memories_history.json (with its date and place), but the photo or video itself isn’t in the ZIP. So the numbers don’t add up, and it’s easy to think the export is broken when it isn’t.
BackupMemories counts them for you. Your results page and the report.txt in your download say how many memories Snapchat listed but didn’t include. Those are almost always My Eyes Only. There’s more on what’s in report.txt.
Can you save them straight to your camera roll?
Not from My Eyes Only. When we checked the app in October 2026, there was no option to save a Snap from My Eyes Only to your phone. You have to unhide it first, and then the data export is the way to get it out with its date and place.
So unhiding them before you ask for your export is the one route that works. And once they’re in the export, we put back their dates, places and captions along with everything else.
We wouldn’t send them to someone in a chat to save them from there. That gives the other person a copy, which is the opposite of what My Eyes Only is for.
Before you unhide them
Once they’re back in Memories, anyone who can open your Snapchat can see them, the same as the rest of your Memories. So it’s worth asking for your export soon after unhiding them.
You can hide them again afterwards. Snapchat’s help page describes it: select the Snaps in Memories, tap “Hide Snaps (My Eyes Only)” and then “Move”. Asking for an export doesn’t change anything in Snapchat, so your Memories stay exactly as they are.
If you’ve forgotten your passcode
There’s no way round it, unfortunately. Snapchat says its support team can’t recover a forgotten My Eyes Only passcode, or the Snaps behind it.
You can set a new passcode (in My Eyes Only, tap “Options” and then “Forgot Passcode”), but Snapchat deletes everything saved with the old one when you do. So don’t reset it unless you’ve accepted losing what’s in there. Try the codes you’re likely to have used first, and give it time if one might come back to you.
My Eyes Only uses its own passcode, not your Snapchat password. It’s easy to mix them up.
Already asked for your export?
Then your My Eyes Only memories won’t be in it. Unhide them as above and ask Snapchat for a new export. When it arrives, download all of its files and use only those. A new export can split your memories across the files differently, so don’t mix files from two exports.
Once they’re saved
They’re ordinary photos and videos from then on. If you save them to your phone and it backs up to Google Photos or iCloud, they’ll go along with everything else, so think about whether that’s where you want them.
And keep two copies in two places, as with the rest of your memories.
Waiting for Snapchat's email?
Snapchat usually takes a day or two to send your export, sometimes up to a week. Leave your email and we'll send you one reminder, with what to do next.
