How to save all your Snapchat Memories to your camera roll

For a handful, select them in Memories and tap "Export". For all of them at once, download your Snapchat export, fix it with BackupMemories, and save the result to Photos from your iPhone in a few taps.

Step by step

  1. Download your export Ask Snapchat for a copy of your data. Our guide shows how.
  2. Add it to BackupMemories On your iPhone or a computer. We email you a link when your memories are ready.
  3. Open the link on your iPhone Choose to save to this iPhone. If you've got 40 memories or fewer, it's one tap and then "Save".
  4. For bigger libraries, unpack and save Download a part, tap it once in the Files app to unpack it, open the "Snapchat Memories" folder, tap the ⋯ button, then Select, then Select All. Tap Share and choose "Save Images".
  5. Tidy up and repeat Delete the download and the unpacked folder to free up space, then do the next part.

Saving a few from the Snapchat app

Swipe up from the camera to open Memories. Press and hold a Snap and tap “Export”, or tap the select icon at the top to pick several, then choose where to save them. Snapchat’s help page has the details.

But you have to tap every memory yourself, so it’s no good for a few thousand. For that, you need Snapchat’s data export.

Why not save the export straight to Photos?

You can, but the photos have no date inside them, so they all land on the day you saved them, at the bottom of your library. Captions come as separate see-through images, and long videos are in 10-second pieces. That’s what the fixing is for. There’s more on why the dates are wrong.

How much space you need

Saving to Photos needs room for the download, the unpacked folder and the copy in Photos, all at once. That’s why we split big libraries into parts of up to 2GB. Delete the first two after each part and the space comes back.

Backup to iCloud as well

If iCloud Photos is turned on (Settings, your name, iCloud, Photos), everything you save to Photos goes up to iCloud too, and onto your other Apple devices. So that’s also the way to backup Snapchat Memories to iCloud. It does need enough iCloud storage for all of them.

A very big library?

Downloading the computer version on a Mac and importing it into the Photos app (File, then Import) is quicker. With iCloud Photos on, they reach your iPhone from there. See how to download Snapchat Memories to your computer.
