How to move Snapchat Memories to Google Photos

Download your Memories with Snapchat's data export, put the dates and places back, and upload the fixed files. BackupMemories can send them straight to a new Google Photos album, or you can upload them yourself.

Step by step

  1. Download your export Ask Snapchat for a copy of your data. Our guide shows how.
  2. Add it to BackupMemories Upload the files as they are. We email you a link when they're ready.
  3. Choose Google Photos Sign in with Google and allow BackupMemories to add photos to your library.
  4. Find them in the new album They arrive in a new album named "Snapchat Memories (BackupMemories …)" with the day's date, and each one shows up in your timeline on the day it was taken.

Why the dates matter more in Google Photos

Google Photos puts everything in your timeline by the date it was taken, using the date inside each file. Photos straight from Snapchat’s export don’t have one, so they’d all land on the day you uploaded them, mixed in with this week’s photos. Once the dates and places are back, they slot in where they belong and show up when you search for a place.

What permission we ask for

Only permission to add photos and videos to your library. It doesn’t let us see your other photos. And we drop the permission as soon as sending finishes. Under the hood has the exact details.

Uploading them yourself

If you’d rather do it by hand, download the fixed files to a computer, unzip them and drag the folders onto photos.google.com. Or on Android, save them to your phone and turn on backup for that folder in Google Photos.

Storage

Everything you upload counts towards your Google account storage, the same as any other photo. So check you’ve got room before sending a big library.
