How to save Snapchat Memories to your Android gallery

Download the fixed files to your phone and unpack them, and they show up in your gallery as one album called "Snapchat Memories", with the right dates and places. For just a few, you can export them from the Snapchat app instead.

Step by step

  1. Download your export Ask Snapchat for a copy of your data. Our guide shows how.
  2. Add it to BackupMemories On your phone or a computer. We email you a link when your memories are ready.
  3. Open the link on your phone and download a part Choose to save to this phone, then tap "Download". It goes into your Downloads folder.
  4. Unpack it Open your Files app (Files by Google, or My Files on Samsung), go to Downloads, tap the download and choose "Extract".
  5. Tidy up and repeat Your gallery now has a "Snapchat Memories" album. Delete the download to free up space and do the next part.

Saving a few from the Snapchat app

In Memories, press and hold a Snap and tap “Export”, or tap the select icon at the top to pick several. It’s fine for a few memories. But for years of them, Snapchat’s data export is the only practical way.

Why fix them first

Straight out of the export, your photos have no date inside them, so your gallery puts them all on the day you downloaded them. Captions are separate files, and long videos are in 10-second clips. Fixing them first means the album looks like your Memories did.

In Google Photos

If Google Photos is your gallery app, the album shows up under Library, then “On this device”. It stays on your phone unless you turn on backup for that folder. So if you want them in your Google account as well, either turn that on or send them to Google Photos directly.

How much space you need

You need room for the download and the unpacked files at the same time. Big libraries come in parts of up to 2GB, so you only ever need space for one part extra.
