Why are my Snapchat videos split into 10-second clips?
Snapchat records long videos in short parts, usually about 10 seconds each, and its export saves every part as a separate memory. The parts can be found by their timing and joined back into the full video, without losing quality when nothing needs re-drawing.
Step by step
- Add the files Snapchat sent you to BackupMemories Upload them as they are. We find the clips that belong to one recording by their exact start times and video format.
- Leave "Join long videos" on It's on by default. If you also want the separate clips, open Options and tick "Also keep the separate parts".
- Save the joined videos to your photo app Each recording appears once, with the date and place of its first part.
How to tell parts of one video apart from separate videos
In exports we’ve checked (October 2026), each part of a long recording starts exactly 10 seconds after the one before, with the same size and format. Recordings of two to five parts were common. Separate videos that happen to be saved at the same moment don’t follow that pattern, so they’re left alone.
Joining without losing quality
When the parts can simply be placed end to end, we join them without re-encoding, so the video is exactly as sharp as Snapchat’s. If a part has a caption or sticker to put back on, or the joins would show a stutter, we re-encode once at high quality so the seams are smooth.
Joins made without re-encoding are checked for glitches at the seams, and redone with re-encoding if needed. If a recording can’t be joined at all, you still get every part as a separate video.
